In February 2018, upon a deal with Getty images, Google decided to make some crucial changes to their Image feature. Now users can no longer use the view image and search by image option on the image search page as Google removes view image option. The step has been rolled out to deal with the copyright infringement issue. As expected we have found many users expressing their despair against it.
Actually, the story dates back to 2016 when Getty accused Google for creating a large database of high-resolution copyright images and making it available freely. This made Google to take the required step, thus now it takes user to the original website in order to download the image which further helped the hosting site to generate a good amount of revenue.
However, as per user’s perspective where previously they simply have to click on “view image” in order to get the required image, now as google removes view image option they have to rather visit the website. No wonder why it is not welcomed by most of us. Luckily, if you’re one of those whose daily needs are based on searching and using image results from Google image, then I have found some easy methods to get this done.
Following are the methods which can be used:
Using the “view image” extension for Chrome and Firefox.

Using a different search engine.
If you are not interested in adding extra load to your browser by installing an extension. Then the best alternative would be searching the required image on a different search engine. Fortunately, there are many option from which you can try. I have listed few for your help.
- Bing: What can be better than a search engine from Microsoft itself, I agree it has its own cons as it can be really annoying at times. Still when it comes to get a required picture, it can prove out to be a great source.
- DuckDuckGo: Currently the best after Google search engine bringing a simple UI to the table. Although it doesn’t offer a separate Images tab like Google, but it does provide a ‘view file’ link.
Step are simple, all you need to do is click on the desired image followed by clicking the view file button to load the image in the save resolution.
- Startpage: Another renowned search engine commonly known for its private environment. Enhanced by google it offers a similar Image section just like Google. Here you simply need to click the required image upon which you will be displayed a view image (always anonymously) option, click on it and you get the image with the available size without any hassle.
